A GUIDE TO CREATING YOUR BEST DIGITAL FOOTPRINT AND IDENTITYINSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOThis is my instructional video that details 3 critical sentence structures: simple, compound, and complex. This video provides many visuals for students to better understand what they are learning. I am a very visually-oriented person, so incorporating these visuals in a video setting is a very effective way to learn. I like the idea of having liberty to create my own video opposed to using other videos because I can personalize it to what I want to focus on with my students. Instructional videos are great and easy to reference for future assignments. I intend to make videos often in my classroom because I know their value and how helpful they can be for those that do not prefer lecturing.
Having the liberty to create my own videos gives me the ability to personalize my ideas and directly correlate to my lesson. It is important to demonstrate care and understanding for students, and them seeing you put time and effort into making personalized videos will make them more inclined to participate in class and hopefully give them motivation in my classroom. ------------- DATA COLLECTION |
Made with Piktochart, this graphic offers far more than just an explanation of how to create your best digital identity. Instead of just stating facts, it takes an interactive spin by incorporating statistics as well as a plan to support the creation of a positive digital identity. To me, it is important to make graphics that students will earn from instead of stating information that does not attract students. The combination of statistics with the colorful "Things to Remember" portion of the page attracts attention and makes it much more likely that the students will look at it and take note of what they see. Along with that, the bottom portion asks the student to reflect on themselves and to keep in mind what they are posting and what effects that may have on their future. For students at the high school level, their digital footprint becomes increasingly important as future employers, college admissions officers, and other figures of authority begin to look at their image they portray of themselves online so it is important to educate them of the potential effects they may have as these people begin looking.
Digital Footprints are very important as our society becomes more technologically advanced and people have more access into the privacy of others' lives. This infographic does a great job not only educating students on the importance of maintaining a good digital footprint, but also doing it in an engaging way. --------------- To the left is my results of my data collection set from Google Forms. This activity acted as way to gather information about a topic relevant to my subject area: English. Google forms is a great way to collect this data in the classroom because with a URL, all students gain access to the same page. Along with their answers, Google Forms allows teachers to grasp idea from students as to what they think in comparison to their peers without revealing their identity. This specific Form focused on the broader picture of Tom Sawyer and the controversy attached to the 'N' word used throughout the book. The questions asked have no right answer and allow students to share their personal opinion and then justify it.
Data Analysis tasks are vital in the classroom to connect the outside world and the classroom together. The students then are able to make classroom issues relevant in their worlds. Data Analysis Tasks are projects that allow students to obtain relevant issues and formulate an idea that can solve the problem. These tasks are very important because they give students real world exposure and allow them to use their creativity to answer hypothetical issues with their own thoughts. This also helps students think outside the box as there is not one one right answer to the issues, and they have the liberty to use their personal thoughts to answer it. |
TECHNOLOGY RULESThis graphic is much like my "A Guide to Creating your Best Digital Footprint and Identity" where I direct my students' attention to an infographic to educate them on my, in this case, expectations for technology in the classroom. I intend to hang this poster up in my classroom as a constant reminder of what I believe are the most important rules attached to technology in the classroom. As technology use in the classroom is growing exponentially, it is important to have rules set in place to remind students that although they have access to other sites that do not pertain to my lessons, it is crucial that they stay on task while in class. I make sure to make a point by saying, "Ms. Miller's technology rules are meant to keep you and your peers in a safe, productive environment!" to reinforce that I am not trying to be mean, but am doing this for their safety.
In this infographic, there is very limited text and the formatting is very clear so students and parents can quickly glance at it, opposed to an email or other lengthy form of communication. This infographic is very to the point and acknowledges my main objectives pertaining to technology in the classroom. People are more likely to look at this and take note of what they see opposed to a long blurb of text that I could send out in an email. The color of the flyer makes it very appealing to the students to look at instead of them looking at a simple word document that is poorly constructed. This gives an easy outline of my expectations of them, and they should be able to understand what I think is most important when we are using technology in the classroom. INQUIRY PROJECTHOUR OF CODEThe main purpose of the Hour of Code was to reinforce the idea of the four key elements of technology in the classroom: effectiveness, efficiency, engagement, and enhancement.
The game is an alternative way for students to learn the basics of computer programming. It is a visual interpretation of something that could be taught with no way to get students attention, but in this visual students are able to see what they are making as Elsa teaches them what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong as they go along. Her helpful hints also allow students to ask questions and have them answered so they can keep progressing. This visual makes the learning process much easier and effective as they will retain the information because it is in context with something they know very well. This is a great pro of technology as we have the increasing ability to gear our learning toward the pop culture and let students be interested in what they are learning in terms of this. Rather than doing this on a piece of paper or lecturing, students are able to access this app on their technology devices. This way the teachers are more of an aid to go around the classroom instead of lecturing on it to the whole class. Instead of being the teacher being the main focus of the activity, the technology is and the teacher is able to be of help instead of the focus. This activity is enhancing because it adds another element to what could be a very boring coding lesson. I think this lesson is very enhancing because it gives the students the opportunity to connect their learning to the activity itself. The activity overall is very enhancing because it turns what could be boring into an activity that students will remember and learn from. |

The Inquiry Project's focus was to engage more than one source of learning in the classroom. This is targeted to evolve in bigger, worldly issues. The goal is to engage students in more than one subject area to culminate various critical thinking approaches into one in the larger view because that is what is going to happen in life when we have to apply our basic knowledge into the workplace, or just in everyday life. In my Inquiry Project my main objective was to incorporate many forms of education (Social Studies, English, and Math) to evaluate my central question: 'How can we increase the percentage of healthy food and decrease the percentage of junk food in our cafeteria?' by creating a lesson plan that grasps the ideas and learning styles of all of my students whether their strengths lie in Math, Social Studies, or English. Inquiry Projects primarily engage PBL (Project Based Learning) which helps students engage class content to larger world issues. This prepares students for the work force and future endeavors as they have experience creating hypothetical situations and problem-solving them in the classroom. This ability to apply these skills are very helpful and attribute themselves very well to the success of students by exposing students to real, relevant issues in our society while also learning class content. -------------- |
